Favorite CrossFit Gear:

RX Jump Rope:

rxcustomjumpropes

It’s a great rope that lasts a really long time. It’s super reliable. The handles feel great in your hands. Plus, having your own jump rope can make a big difference in your training. I currently use the 1.3oz cable but I started with the 1.8oz cable. The heaver cable gives you more feedback which is good for learning double unders.

Olympic Weightlifting Shoes:

As you continue your CrossFit journey, Oly shoes can really help you up your weightlifting game. They give you a strong, lifted support in the heel, making your landings feel super stable. I LOVE my Inov8’s, but the brand is mostly up to you and your preferences.

SFH Protein Powder:

Post-workout recovery always starts with an SFH Recovery shake for me. I feel stronger when I consistently take a shake right after a workout, and there’s a noticeable difference when I don’t.

Lululemon ANYTHING (but especially Wunder Unders):

I worked for lululemon for a few years, and I can tell you from personal experience that this brand has incredible integrity. They craft their clothing to not only look and feel incredible, but to last. And did you know that if anything goes wrong with the product (meaning it’s a product flaw, not a laundry disaster, etc.) during the first five years, you can bring it back in and exchange it? That’s integrity.

By the Numbers by Sean Manseau and Becoming a Supple Leopard by Dr. Kelly Starrett:

devbooks

I believe reading is the primary way by which we continue to grow as adults. And if you want to grow as a CrossFit athlete – crack these two books. I read them every week in preparation for whatever Stephanie and Josh have on deck. Where my nerds at?

Fresh set of clothes & deodorant

And last but not least a fresh set of clothes and deodorant. Just in case. 🙂

RPM Speed Rope:

This rope spins great and the handles are easy to hold. The thicker covered cable spins a lot slower, but is better for control when you’re still learning. The smaller gauge steel cables spin fast but are harder to control. Get both so you can switch to the steel when they get easier. Great rope overall.

Athletic tape:

My hands get blisters in weird places and different for movements. Just applying a little tape keeps that from happening. This is much more helpful than you would expect. You can pick this up a lot of places, like Target or Walmart too, but this one was designed with CrossFitters in mind.

Wrist wraps (velcro):

When doing movements that stress the wrist at all, I like to have a little extra support. These wrist wraps are easy to put on (unlike the ones that wrap two or three times around the wrist) and are quite comfortable. A secondary benefit is that they keep the sweat from getting to your hands by working like a sweat band. I use these for almost every workout, including any Olympic lifts, handstand push-ups, kettlebell swings, etc.

Leather Grips:

These are a must for any work on the rig, such as pull-ups, toes-to- bar, bar muscle-ups, etc. If not, you end up with nasty holes in your hand that burn like crazy in the shower and take a good week to heal! I find that your hands can still rip with these, but it takes a whole lot longer. Chalk these up before the workout and you’ll be happy you have them.

Olympic Lifting Shoes:

These are really great for certain movements that really help set your weight back in your heels and stabilize in that position. These help tremendously in movements, such as the overhead squat, squat clean, squat snatch and pistols, since these movements rely on being in proper position, especially at the bottom of the movement. These are the ones that I have and I love them, but there are a lot of good brands out there

Tall Sock:

The burn from rope climbs is rough. You have to have protection. I could also add compression shorts to this as well, because that rope gets your inner thigh after a bunch of climbs as well. Soccer socks work well and there are a lot of sock options out there.
